Rwanda (Gorillas)
For the truly adventurous at heart, consider spending a few days trekking the sloped hillsides of Rwanda in Parc National des Volcans (PNV) in search of Africa’s magnificent mountain gorillas.
Tracking the gorillas through the light mountain forest on the slopes of the Virungas is a magical experience. Be prepared for an experience like you’ve never had as seeing some of the last remaining 700 mountain gorillas in the world is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. PNV in Rwanda has six habituated gorilla families and tracking most groups in the afro-montane forest usually takes only a few hours. Some gorilla families however are more elusive, and tracking can take a full day, especially when it is wet and muddy.
PAS offers their guests tracking adventures at both the luxury and budget levels. Activities in addition to the traditional Gorilla-trekking might include things such as a visit the golden monkey, drive to Gisenyi, visit Ros Carr’s orphanage and Lake Kivu, climb the Visoke/Muhavura volcanoes, trek to Dian Fossey’s grave, visit the local school, participate in community projects, or walk to Lake Bulera.
